Recommended Bike Locks for the Saris # SA801BL & Loading Recommendation for 2 Bikes on a 3 Bike Rack

Question:

1 Do you have any suggestions for locking the bikes perhaps even to each other to try and minimize the risk of theft of the bikes - in places such as museum parking lots, restaurants and hotels? 2 If I was using the Saris Bones 3 bike rack for only two bikes or even one bike, do you have a suggestion for which station on the bike rack they should be placed?

Great news, I can help you outfit your Saris bike rack # SA801BL with locks for better securing the bike when left out in public places.

For a lock to lock the bikes to each other and the rack I recommend the # e98891. This plastic coated steel cable is 10 feet long. This is the cable used by many of us here because it is long enough to weave through the frame and the wheels to secure the bikes and the removable components of the bike like the front wheel.

To secure the bike rack to the vehicle, I recommend the # TH533 Thule Security Strap. This will wrap around a portion of your trunk mounted rack and then the other side will be secured inside the locked trunk of your vehicle.

When mounting bikes to the rack you will always want to start with the closest cradles to the vehicle, even if you are transporting just one bike on the rack. If you are planning on transporting any alternative framed bikes, like many women's bikes are, you will need to use and adapter bar like # UB01 to mount them properly for the best clearance.

I double checked and the Saris # SA801BL is a confirmed fit for your 2001 Lexus LS 430.
