Bike Rack to Fit 2016 Honda CR-V

Question:

I need a Bike rack for a 2016 Honda CRV. The bike shop says the Saris Bones 2 will work I would need something called a hatch hugger ? ? ? Whats your opinion? I just got the CRV 2 weeks ago. I previously had a tilting, 2 bike, Thule in a hitch on my Explorer. The down side was the rack was on there all the time. The Explorer engine died. I got the CRV. I was hoping for something I could put on when I wanted to take the bike out. But I dont want to cause any damage to the paint or finish of the vehicle. Thoughts ?

Trunk mount bike racks are not considered to fit on a 2016 Honda CR-V by most bike rack manufacturers because of the automatic rear windshield wiper. Your rear wiper will turn on automatically when the front wipers are on and the car is put into reverse. Even if the rear windshield wiper is turned off. This can be an issue if you have a back rack mounted to your car. I would check with Honda to see if there is a way to turn this feature off, or how to best avoid the situation.

With that being said, the Saris Bones 2 # SA805BL will fit on your CR-V and it is recommended that you use the Hatch Huggers # SA3035 along with them in place of the standard straps. Trunk mount bike racks are built to try to minimize any damage to your vehicle, however they are in direct contact so there's always a chance of some damage. Especially, if you're using it for long trips or on a regular basis.

If a hitch mount bike rack is something you'd want to look into the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75742 is compatible with your Honda. This could give you the option of using your existing bike rack that you had on the Explorer and not having anything making contact with your SUV or worrying about the rear windshield wiper.
