Why Does Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Stay Powered On When Vehicle is Off

I purchased and installed the Tekonsha Prodigy P3. Is there a way to power off unit when not in use?

Expert Reply:

Brake controllers such as the P3 you referenced # 90195 will go into a sleep mode after about 15 minutes of it sensing no movement. If you peek through the window after 15 minutes then it should be in sleep mode.

Why we don't recommend cutting power to the controller when not in use is because you lose the presets of the controller when you do this. You would have to reset the controller back up every time you powered it on.
