Best Weight Distribution System for 7700 lbs. 26 Foot Dutchmen Travel Trailer

Question:

We have a 26 foot Lite Dutchmen travel trailer. We pull it with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. My GVWR is 7700 lbs. What weight distribution system would you recommend for this? Thanks!

To choose a weight distribution system we need to know the weight of your trailer, which you said has a maximum of 7700 lbs. and your combined tongue weight (TW). The TW of your trailer is usually about 10-15 percent of its total weight when loaded so we can approximate this to be at most 1100 lbs. To get your combined TW you'll add the amount of weight in the back of your Jeep that is behind the rear axle. Once you have that number you can start looking at weight distribution systems.

Based on what we know I recommend The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control rated for 1000 lbs Tongue Weight # EQ37100ET. It has a 1000 lbs. TW rating which is right around where you want to be unless you are loaded to the max. The Equalizer includes a 4 Point Sway Control to help prevent any side to side movement and also includes both the shank and hitch ball. If you find that the cargo in the bed of your truck behind the rear axle combined with your TW is higher, then I recommend # EQ37120ET which is rated for a tongue weight of 1200 lbs.

I've linked a couple of help articles on weight distribution and tongue weight that may help you.
