Question:

I am using 4 D31T yellowtop optimas in my over the road semi. How should I charge these using a CTEK charger? Do they need to be charged separately or can all 4 be done at the same time and how long would it take.

I Contacted CTEK to be sure that I could give you the correct information on charging your 4 Optima Yellow Top batteries. He said that as long as the batteries are connected in parallel, still a 12 volt system, you can use the CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger w/ Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power, item # CTEK56353, to charge all 4 batteries at the same time. He also stated that the CTEK MULTI US 7002, is the charger that they recommend for the Optima Yellow Top and is the best charger available for your situation.

You will connect the positive terminal at the first battery positive post and the negative terminal to the first battery negative post. Charging all 4 batteries will take approximately twice as long as charging 1 battery that is at the same state of discharge. The Pulse Maintenance function works the same with the batteries connected in parallel.

If you have the batteries connected in series, as a 24 volt or higher system, you will have to separate the batteries and charge them one at a time to use this charger.

I happen to have the CTEK and on our farm we have tractors and other equipment that sit a lot and with this charger we do not have to change batteries out nearly as often. The reconditioning mode really works well to keep the batteries functioning like new.

The spare battery cables make charging many different pieces of equipment a breeze also.
