Recommended Replacement PinBox And Under-Bed Installation Kit On 2015 GMC Sierra 2500

Question:

I have a short bed 6 1/2 ft 2015 GMC 2500HD pickup. In addition I own a 5th wheel Montana ~ 16,800 lbs that has a Mor/ryde RPB72-1116 Pin Box. I also have a Reese Elite RE25 # hitch that I removed from a truck I previously owned. The GMC 2500 pickup does not have the trailer prep package installed. If it makes good sense I want to utilize my Reese Hitch with under the bed rail and a 19k Sidewinder that will take the place of my existing Mor/ryde pin box. The concern I have with the Sidewinder is that it doesnt absorb towing shock like my Mor/Ryde pin box is advertised to. Can you tell me if this is a valid concern? Will I notice a big difference with the truck/trailer ride, handling, and wear and tear of the truck/trailer with the Sidewinder vs the Mor/Ryde? If there is no appreciable difference then please specify the components I need to install my Reese 25k# hitch with below the bed rails in my GMC and the sidewinder model number to take the place of my Mor/Ryde pin box. If you suggest against using the sidewinder or if there isnt a model that will work then I will use a sliding hitch and keep my pin box. Thanks for your help,

The cushioned Sidewinder we offer that can be used to replace the MOR/ ryde RPB72-1116 pin box on your trailer is part # RP61412. This Sidewinder is limited to 16,000-lbs.

For a cushioned replacement pin box with a higher weight capacity I recommend is the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler, part # 5AB-S500-700. This has a cushioned shock and an adjustable air spring that reduces vertical shock by over 40 percent. This pin box also reduces chucking by nearly 60 percent.

We do not carry the Mor/ryde brand of pin boxes so I cannot say what the difference in ride will be between your pin box and the # 5AB-S500-700.

The under-bed fifth wheel installation kit for your Reese Elite fifth wheel hitch I recommend is the Reese kit, part # RP30868. This will attach to the outside of the frame rails on your truck and gives you full bed access when you are not towing.

The wiring harness for the bed of your truck for your fifth wheel trailer I recommend is part # 41157.
