Installation of New Brake Controller with Current Reese Adapter on 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

I have a basic reese controller on my 2004 Suburban pulling a 7000# travel trailer. Im not happy with it and looking at the P2 or P3 Trying to tell if the P3 has LESS capability, Hayse G2, Hopkins Insight. I am also considering the DirecLink - which I dont think you carry, but I like the idea of the more direct interface, but you pay for it! Question: Will the harness from the Reese work with the above or do I need another - the plugs look the same in the pictures. Any recommendation? Thanks!

It sounds like your current brake controller adapter looks like the # 3015-P which is needed to plug into your 2004 Chevy Silverado's port. The brake controller (P2 or P3) will include a universal wiring harness that will connect to all the connections needed, so you will not need another adapter if your current adapter isn't actually the # 3015-P and doesn't fit, you will just use the included harness and butt connect to your current adapter.

The Hayes G2 # HA81792BB will use the # HA81780-HBC adapter, and the Hopkins InSIGHT will use the # HM47795 adapter to connect the brake controller to the wiring and you will need them for the controllers. The Hayes will have a 125 degree mounting range and the Hopkins has more parts to mount and install, that's why I recommend either the P2 or P3 brake controllers.

The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is a great proportional brake controller. A proportional brake controller means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. This is the best selling controller on the market because of how easy it is to setup and use, and how well it works. The P3, my favorite, # 90195 is like the P2's big brother it has all the same great features but it also comes with a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The Tekonsha P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195, will work with both electric over hydraulic brakes on the trailer as well as electric brakes. It's brake type menu selection allows the user to switch between the two systems. The P2, # 90885, will also work with both electric brakes and electric over hydraulic brake systems but it does not have a toggle switch.
