Does Curt X5 5th Wheel Adapter for B&W Gooseneck Hitches Put Weight on Bed or Damage Aluminum Beds
Question:
Does this adapter actually put weight on the bed of the truck? Will it bend the new aluminum beds on the Ford trucks?

Expert Reply:
The Curt X5 adapter # 16310 does put weight from the 5th wheel and hitch on the actual truck bed. That weight is dispersed to a wider area because the rails on the adapter are essentially 5th wheel rails.
I have not heard reports of the adapter bending the aluminum beds of the new Ford trucks.
Another option instead of using the X5 adapter is to use a B&W Companion hitch # BWRVK3500 for long beds or # BWRVK3400 for the slider version for short beds. Either of these hitches mount in the B&W gooseneck ball hole just like the X5 adapter. Again, some of the trailer weight will be transferred to the truck bed but over a wider area front to back instead of side to side like the X5.
