Recommended Weight Distribution for 2010 GMC Acadia Towing a 3700 lbs Trailer

Question:

Hello, I have a 2010 Acadia AWD with tow package and a towing capacity 5200 lbs. Looking to tow an all in 3700 lbs travel trailer. I am wondering if you think there will be any issues with this setup ie. too much weight and what products you would recommend to help with sway and/or weight distribution. Thanks

Since your trailer weighs more than 50 percent of the weight of your 2010 GMC Acadia you can definitely benefit from a weight distribution system. To determine which system works best for you we will need the loaded tongue weight (TW) of your trailer added to the amount of weight that is behind the rear axle of the Acadia when towing.

The TW of your trailer is usually about 10-15 percent of the gross trailer weight (GTW). If your trailer is 3700 lbs. when loaded then we can figure the TW of your trailer to be no more than 550 lbs. Add that to however much weight you have behind the rear axle of your Acadia and you have the total TW for the entire setup.

If you find that the total TW exceeds 550 lbs. the Pro Series Weight Distribution System # PS49582, rated at 10,000 lbs. GTW and 750 lbs. TW you referenced is a good choice because it's unlikely you will be adding too much weight behind the rear axle of the Acadia. The Pro Series also has sway control which will help you keep your vehicle under control while driving. However, the 550 lbs. is just an estimate based on your GTW of 3700 lbs. and is also figured on the high side of that. If you find that your TW does not exceed 550 lbs. then # PS49901 will be a better system for you.

I have attached help article on weight distribution for you as well.
