If your 2004 Chevy Silverado is a 1500 or 2500 Light Duty series the Curt Class V 2 Inch Hitch, # 15323, will fit with the stock spare tire in its original spot. It will need to be removed for installation but will be reinstalled after the hitch is installed.
The instructions on the Draw-Tite Class III 2 Inch Hitch, # 75362, shows the location of the hitch on the vehicle in reference to the bumper. It shows the hitch being under the vehicle and the receiver part of the hitch is attached to the bottom of the factory step bumper. So you will see the receiver part but not much of the cross bar of the hitch.
The instructions on the Curt Class V 2 Inch Hitch, # 15323, does not show it located on the vehicle but the location of the hitch would be similar to the Draw-Tite hitch.
I am sending links to the installation instructions on both of the hitches.
