Roof Rack Fit and Ski Rack Recommendation for 2017 Kia Sportage

Question:

I replaced my 2013 Kia Sportage with a 2017 Kia Sportage. While I was able to install the factory crossbars from the 2013, the parts staff told me that the crossbars for the 2017 have a new part number, thus they are different and therefore I need new crossbars. Is this true? Also, what ski rack do you recommend for the crossbars? Thank you.

I was able to find the Kia roof rack fit listings on their OE parts site and they do in fact list different roof racks as fits from the 2013 to the 2017 Kia Sportage. For a roof rack that is confirmed to fit your 2017 Sportage, I recommend the Thule AeroBlade Edge Aero Bar Roof Rack # TH7602B-TH7602B with the discontinued Fit Kit 4062. This rack features an arched design with the crossbar ending in the roof rack foot, making the rack resemble an OE-style rack.

If you prefer a roof rack where the crossbars pass through and extend past the feet, the Rhino Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack Crossbar # RRVA126B-2 with Foot Pack # RRSX023 is a great option that offers high quality components at an economical price.

The ski rack I recommend for you is the Yakima PowderHound Roof-Mounted, Locking Ski and Snowbard Carrier # Y03092 because it includes locks to deter theft of your skis and features a left bracket to accommodate large bindings. This carrier is designed to hold up to 4 skis or 2 snowboards and will fit either of the two roof racks referenced above. If you need a rack to carry more skis/boards, the FatCat EVO 6 # Y03096 can carry up to 6 skis or 4 boards.
