Can the Hopkins Smart Hitch Be Installed on a 2014 Chevy Silverado and Be On all the Time

Question:

2014 Chevy Silverado 1500. I want to add a camera to the back of my truck that will stay on when the engine is running. How do I find out if this truck is set up for a 7 wire towing plug? I have an after market trailer hitch and plug in 4 wire plug on it now. Ive looked at where this plug in hooks in and so far all I see is the normal 4 wires for a 4 wire plug. There may be a switchable power source there- butI dont know what Im looking for The bumper on this truck has a regular build-in factory hitch that you would need to cut a hole in the plastic/rubber covering to put in the ball. The plastic/rubber covering has two cut outs that you can install a plug. Ive been told that if it is set up for a 7 wire plug- I would most likely get the dual 7 and 7 wire plug if my truck can use one. I have a low cap on this truck ~3inch tall and that along with this truck being on 17inch tires- it is very hard to see behind it. Any suggestions? Is there some other place that I can connect into a switchable power source. I do want the camera to stay on when ever the motor is running. Is there some way if I can locate if there is a wire at the rear of this truck that is switchable? Thanks,

I would be very surprised if your 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 did not have 7-way wiring present at the rear of it. I attached a picture that will have what the round connector you would be looking for looks like. It will most likely be tucked somewhere behind the rear bumper. To our knowledge every 2015 Silverado came wired for a 7-way.

Once you find that connector you can install the Hopkins Smart Hitch part # HM50002 to it. Before you install it though you would want to swap the red wire of the harness that attaches to the 7-way connector from tapping into the purple wire to tapping into the black wire. That will make the camera turn on whenever the truck is on.
