The part # IMF13454BK is normally used for securing motorcycle handlebars without marring the finish of them. Basically the strap has a loop on each end. You would run the strap through the one end to create a slip knot to wrap around the handlebar or any other cargo.
To carry kayaks with the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier # S510 you will need to strap down the kayaks front and back. We took several pictures of this rack with kayaks loaded on it and not all of them show the kayaks secured and ready for transport.
A lot of people use the Hood Loops like part # TH529 for securing the front of the kayak. Simply close them under the vehicle's hood or trunk. I attached a video for the # TH830 that shows how it gets used to secure a kayak. At the front and back of kayak there should be an eyelet or area that is designed for a strap to attach. That is where you should attach the straps and then run them to the # TH830.
