Is it Okay to Use a Weight Distribution System Rated for Lower Tongue Weight that What Trailer Has
Question:
Can you enlighten me on what I would expect with trailer tongue weight nearing 820lbs and the spring bars only rated to 600lbs? My truck can tow max 11000 lbs, and my trailer loaded is 8000lbs 7000 UVW. The first tow was a lot of sway cross winds were a factor but it seemed fairly unstable. I measured the trailer at near level nose high by 1 and my trucks front wheel well sat at normal unloaded position due to cranking the spring bars up. I was wondering if upgrading to the 1000lb spring bar would help limit the unsteadiness and improve sway. Thanks!

If you run spring bars that are rated too low for the loaded tongue weight of a trailer you end up with a weight distribution system that's only partially effective. That would explain why you are still getting sway.
I would recommend a system with a 1,000 lb tongue weight rating like you mentioned like the Equalizer part # EQ37100ET that comes with a ball and shank. For a thin walled socket to install the ball you would want the part # ALL643216.
