Troubleshooting P.L. Error on Prodigy Brake Controller 90185 Installed on a 2005 Yukon XL
Question:
I have had this controller for 3 years now. The last time I took the trailer out the controller would intermittently flash a P.L. code. It would be applying power to the trailer brakes and then all of a sudden let go. This happened pretty consistently for 600 miles. When I returned home, I pulled all wheels, checked the magnets, and wiring on the trailer. I could not find anything wrong. I pulled the 7 way plug on the trailer apart and found corrosion on the black, positive terminal. I replaced the connector with a new one and the problem has gone away 99. But I still have a rare instance when the P.L. shows up. I am towing with a 2005 Yukon XL. It has a factory harness that just plugs in. Should I try replacing the fuse? If so, Where is it located? Thank You

I would actually check the connection between brake controller and your factory port. Often you would see the P.L. if the connector wiggled slightly loose from where it is plugged into your junction box, especially if it is only happening once in awhile.
Try unplugging the brake controller from the junction box port and let it sit for three minutes. When you plug it back in, make sure the connectors are firmly clicking together. You will need to reset the controller brake power and boost settings after doing this.
I would also recommend looking into would be to check the 7-Way connector on the vehicle, and make sure no corrosion has built up, and also that the 12v power wire, usually connected the top right pin on the plug, has no pinched or exposed areas that may be touching metal.
Dielectric grease like our part # 11755 would be a great addition, as this helps to seal the connection and prevents further corrosion in the connectors.
