Recommended Jack For Raising Sunray Travel Trailer To Change Tire

Question:

Hi, I need a jack for changing a flat tire on a Sunray 149. 3500 lbs GVWR, single Dexter Axle Its similar in size to a small Whitewater Retro. Dexter does not recommend jacking the axle or suspension parts. I figure the frame just to the rear of the leaf spring mount is a good spot to lift from. I need a lifting range of about 14inch to 23inch to cover flat tire to clearance to mount spare. Everything I read says not to use a stabilizing jack for this kind of lifting, but why shouldnt a 5000 lb jack lift 1800 lbs? I see you reccomended this jack for someone else for tire changing. Appreciate your recommendation for me. Thanks.

To lift your trailer I recommend using a jack like the Powerbuilt Unijack, part # ALL620471.

This jack has a 6,000-lb weight capacity and the lift range is between 11 and 21 inches.

Scissor jacks like part # JSC-30-IND that you referenced are not recommended for lifting trailers and are to be used for stabilization only.

You want to make sure the wheel on the other side of the trailer is chocked and not able to move when changing the tire.
