Recommended Tire Chains for 2012 Ford F-450 Super Duty Towing 5th Wheel Trailer Off-Road

Question:

I am looking to buy chains for 2012 Ford F450 Super Duty dually 4x4. Tires are 245/75R17. I want square link as I will be towing a 5th wheel trailer, perhaps in snow and mud when boon docking in late fall. Trailer I am pulling is 16,000 lbs. Prefer USA made if available. What do you recommend? Also, do you recommend using a dually chain setup on the rear axel? Or just chain up the outside wheels only? Thanks for your help.

For a set of heavy-duty square-link tire chains for your 2012 Ford F-450's 245/75R17 tires I suggest the Pewag Mud Service Tire Chains # PWE2439S. These case-hardened chains feature nickel manganese alloy construction that makes them ideal for off-road use.

You can use a set of chains on the outer dually tires or run two sets if you prefer, so long as Ford says this is okay. It is a good idea to check your Ford owner's manual for any guidance related to tire chain use on your specific truck. If permitted by Ford, you may care to also install a set of front tire chains to help you maintain steering and braking performance in rough conditions.
