How to Choose Brand of Special Trailer Tire

Question:

thanks for clarifying the difference between the contender and provider. For a dual axle trailer grossing at 14,300 and tongue weight of 2300 I am trying to decide on your Taskmaster Provider, the Goodyear Marathon, and the Powerking Towmax. Tire size is 235/80-16. I can purchase the Goodyear and Powerking locally which I think could be better if I run into tire issues? Looks to me like the Taskmaster has a higher speed rating, but the weight ratings are very similar. What would you recommend? Thanks

If three different tires can satisfy your trailer's weight load requirement, I would choose the one that carries the highest speed rating. There are three main causes for trailer tire failure: overloading, incorrect inflation (either too low or too high) and travelling at speeds over the tire's rating. All of these conditions lead to heat build-up which is what kills a trailer tire.

The Taskmaster # TTWTRTM2358016E radial special trailer tire carries an "M" speed rating, which means it can handle continuous highway speeds up to it's rated maximum of 81-mph. For interstate highway travel this is the way to go. This tire carries a 2-year limited warranty. You can have these locally mounted on your current wheels.
