Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2016 Subaru Forester Premium with Raised Side Rails
Question:
What do you recommend for carrying my 38 lb kayak? I believe I need the crossbar set first, then what are my options? 2016 Subaru Forester and it has raised side rail.

A great option for a roof rack on your 2016 Subaru Forester with raised side rails is the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Roof Rack, Black # JA7973. This roof rack is also available in Silver, # JA7954. The Vortex StealthBar rack offers aerodynamic, elliptical-shaped crossbars to provide a quite, low-profile system. Since the crossbars do not extend past the feet, this roof rack offers a more OE look for your Forester. I've attached a review video of the # JA7973 rack on a similar vehicle as yours for you.
The Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier # S510 that you referenced is a great option to carry your kayak on the Vortex SteathBar rack and your Forester. This fixed J-style carrier allows you to carry the kayak on the roof without taking up as much space of the crossbar as if the kayak were laying flat. Tie-down straps to secure your kayak to the carrier and bow and stern straps to secure each end of your boat are included with the # S510 carrier. I've attached a review of this carrier for you.
If you'd like to carry your kayak flat on the roof rack, the Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Kayak Carrier # RR571 is a good option. This carrier allows you to load the kayak from the rear of your vehicle. The rear cradles have felt pads that help you push the kayak into the carrier, rather than having to lift the kayak into the carrier from the side of the vehicle. Tie-down straps are also included with this carrier to help you secure your kayak on your Forester. I've attached a review video of this carrier for you as well.
