Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2016 Ram 3500 Short Bed with Ram Box

Is the RP61420 Sidewinder the best solution for a 4x4 3500 RAM with the Rambox? What is the best hitch combination set up I could install for a 16,000 lb 5th wheel I am looking to purchase?

There is a way that you can tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2016 Ram 3500 with the Ram Box feature but it will require using a Sidewinder pin box on the trailer so the truck bed won't get damaged.

To start you will need an installation kit for the hitch. For a custom kit you can use # C16430-204.

Next you will need a fixed 5th wheel trailer hitch. Since the trailer you are looking at is 16,000 pounds I recommend a hitch rated higher for safety. The Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 with Wedge # RP44FR would be a great option for a sidewinder.

For a Sidewinder I would have to know the manufacturer and model of the pin box on the trailer. Sidewinders only fit in place of certain OEM pin boxes so knowing this information is critical. Take a look at the help article I have linked with additional information.
