Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 1,500 lbs Tongue Weight
Question:
I need a weight distribution hitch with sway control for my 2007 RAM 3500 truck. My travel trailer weighs around 8,000 lbs with tongue weight of around 900 lbs. Sometimes I will be hauling my ATV in the back of the truck while towing the trailer which will put the tongue weight up around 1,500 lbs. What is the best hitch that I can get for this? What adjustments would I need to make when I changed between the different tongue weights? Thanks,

For a weight distribution system for a tongue weight that is 1,500 lbs when loaded and sometimes 900 lbs you would want the Reese part # RP66131 but you would have to verify that your tongue weight would not exceed 1,500 lbs when loaded. Basically you would be at the edges of this systems range that is 800 to 1,500 lbs. For a shank you would then want the part # RP54970.
For either tongue weight you would have to basically set the system up totally different. Easiest way to go between the two would be to set it up for both setups and then remember the settings used.
For a hitch ball you would need the part # 63836.
