Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2008 Honda Element Towing Aliner Trailer

Question:

I have 2008 Element and an Aliner at 1145lbs. Am getting class 3 hitch with sway bars. Is this a safe arrangement. I am new to towing.

I did some research and found that the towing capacity of your Element is 1,500-lbs. You said your trailer weighs 1145-lbs. If that is the fully-loaded ready-to-tow weight you should be good to go with a trailer hitch like part # 75659.

Since you want to tow I recommend our ball mount kit, part # 989900. This comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

You can use anti-sway control on your trailer to help when driving in high winds or when big trucks pass by. I recommend the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, part # 83660. The sway control bracket I recommend is part # RP26003.

You will also need trailer wiring if you do not already have it on your Honda. I recommend the T-One Harness, part # 118465. This harness just plugs into the vehicle wiring in the rear cargo area.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.

Weight distribution is not allowed for any of the trailer hitches we offer that fit your Element.
