Selecting Correct Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for 2012 Ford F-150 Towing Toy Hauler

Question:

Im have a 2012 supercrew F-150 The toy hauler Im looking to buy has a dry weight is 5200lbs plus 800lbs for the ATV. Also add about 200lbs in bed of truck for generator and a couple 5gal gas cans. I then figured about 800lbs of water, propane, food clothes. That would put me at around 720lbs tongue weight and 6800lbs total weight. Does that sound right? and if so which WD hitch would you recommend?

You are totally on the right track in how you are figuring your actual loaded trailer tongue weight (TW). This makes a big difference in how well a weight distribution system will work on any given truck/trailer combination. We offer a handy scale # e99044 for measuring trailer tongue weight but other methods are outlined in the linked article.

For an actual total TW of 720-lbs the Pro Series # 49570 that you referenced would be a suitable choice. This system works over a range of 700- to 1200-lbs so total actual TW of 720-lbs, while on the lower end of its operating range, will be okay.

If you have any concerns with ground clearance, then you might prefer a trunnion style system that uses straight bars rather than curved bars. Equal-i-zer system # EQ37100ET uses trunnion bars and includes built-in sway control (rather than the add-on friction type). It also works with both electric and surge trailer brakes.

Please refer to the linked video and article for more on the Equal-i-zer system and on weight distribution in general.
