Wiring Functions of Hopkins Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger 20011
Question:
Hopkins charger #20011. If my assumptions are correct this not a battery charger but a switch to prevent the tow vehicles electrical system from over charging the battery on long trips. My question is is the blue wire placed in series with the breakaway switch or just tapped into the braking system? I already have a wire from my battery to my breakaway switch to my trailer brake wiring. Seems like that would make the 20011 blue wire redundant and unnecessary for my current system? Many thanks

Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger # 20011 is indeed a charger. When using it the black wire connects to the 12 volt power circuit coming from the tow vehicle. The Red wire connects to the breakaway battery on the trailer. The blue wire connects to the breakaway switch. I have linked a video that shows installation of this charger to better illustrate how it installs.
