Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 20 ft Trailer that Weighs 4,000 lbs Total

Question:

I am looking at the #49570setup. I will have a 20foot enclosed trailer @ 3100 lbs. Load will be 4000lbs. Tow vehicle is a 06 3500 dually chevy. Would the 49570 be the system to get?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Since tongue weight is typically 10-15 percent of total trailer weight you would be most likely looking at a tongue weight of 400 to 600 lbs.

The part # 49570 would not be ideal for this as it would be rated too high and would give you a very harsh ride. The part # PS49582 would be the next rating lower and would be ideal in that regard. It has a tongue weight range of 550 to 750 lbs.
