Why Is there a 10 Foot Limit for the Thule Stacker Kayak Carrier

Question:

Why the arbitrary limit to 10 feet? There are plenty of 11-foot kayaks under 50 lbs, lots more choices in overall quality and seating comfort. Planning puchase of 2 kayaks, looking in 10-11 foot range, 40-50lbs each, seems wrong to double the price of the carrier for 1 foot of kayak length. Will be installed on a 2015 Subaru Outback with factory roof rack. Great website by the way. Thanks for your help.

I spoke with my contact at Thule and she told me that you can only use the Thule Stacker # TH830 with polyethylene kayaks that are less than 10 feet in length. Anything else can potentially damage the kayak since it basically will be resting right on the crossbars of the roof rack.

For longer kayaks you would want the part # Y04073 instead. I attached a review video.
