Recommended Weight Distribution System for Towing a 10,000 Lb Trailer with a 3/4 Ton Dodge Diesel
Question:
Have a 3/4 Ton Dodge Diesel and a 29 foot, 10,000 pound trailer. Considering this hitch RP66560. What do you think? Looked at the dual cam but it looks like it doesnt have enough ground clearance for my situation. Honestly, I am hoping to find something easy to install, I'm 67 years old.

The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System with Shank, 1,200 lbs. TW / 12,000 lbs. GTW, item # RP66560, is an excellent weight distribution and sway control system. Proper setup and trailer loading will provide great performance and when large vehicles or high winds are encountered trailer sway will be counteracted by friction between the bars and the automotive style friction pads on the bar hangers.
Installation of this system is the easiest of the higher capacity weight distribution systems and the installation instructions (see link) are very good. The # RP66560 system will handle up to 1,200 pounds of tongue weight, so your 10,000 pound trailer will work well with this system as long as the tongue weight does not exceed this amount.
Although a bit harder to install the Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System 1,200lbs TW / 12,000 lbs GTW, item # RP66074, has the advantage of controlling sway before it gets started. You should not experience ground clearance problems with this system. I would recommend this system if your reason for looking at a weight distribution system is because of trailer sway. Once the Strait-Line system is installed it is not any harder to get hooked up when connecting the truck and trailer.
With either of these systems you will need a properly sized hitch ball with 1-1/4 inch shank, item # 19286, and with the # RP66074 Strait-Line system you will also need to purchase a weight distribution shank, item # RP54970, to attach the weight distribution head to.
