3,500 lb Trailer Axle Leaf Spring Recommendation for a Single Axle Travel Trailer

Question:

hi, I need to replace springs on a small travel trailer with a 3500# axle. The springs that are on it now are 4 leaf that measure same as the e54SR. 25 1/8 inches with a bit extra length because of sag. Looking through your information it is recommended that the mounting brackets that are welded to the trailer be 24 3/4 to 25 inches apart center hole to center hole for the e54SR. The mounting brackets welded on my trailer are 23 5/8 apart. This would suggest to me that the 3 leaf 3500# spring number 1724 may be the better choice. Can you suggest what I should do. Should I replace my springs with the e54SR 251/8 inch spring which are the match to the springs on the trailer now or should I replace them with the 1724, 23 1/4 inches which seem to be a better match to the mounting brackets welded on the trailer. The trailer is 24 years old and I have had it for around 10 years. I have never replaced the springs but I dont know if the previous owner did or didnt.

When picking out leaf springs for a trailer the number one priority is to pick out the proper weight rating springs for the trailer. The reason being that hangers can be moved if needed.

If your current leaf springs are 25-1/8 to 25-3/4 inches in length and the hanger spacing works as-is then the # e54SR would work just fine. Otherwise you could move the hangers out a bit and it would be just fine.
