Recommendation For Trailer Winch to Pull 4x4 Buggy and Use of Deep Cycle Battery For Power Source

Question:

I am wanting to put a winch on my car hauler, possibly the 4000 lb. This is to pull a 4X4 buggy up when it breaks, about 3300 lbs. What I would like to do is put a deep cycle battery in the storage box to run the winch. Can I charge the battery with the accessory wire from the RV plug? What are your recommendations for wiring this configuration up? Thank you.

The Bulldog Winch Powersports Series UTV Winch # BDW15012, will work great to pull your 4x4 buggy. It offers a 4,000 pound line pull rating and offers a 60 foot wire rope. The winch will power loads both in and out, and has a freespooling clutch for fast wire rope payout.

A deep cycle battery will work fine to power the winch. To run the deep cycle battery, you will want to make sure and install a battery box for the battery to be kept inside your storage box. I would recommend taking the battery out or disconnecting the winch from the battery before charging the battery. It is always safer and is recommended to charge a battery that is not connected to anything before charging it.
