Can Shank of Curt X5 Adapter be Trimmed to Allow Rails to Sit Flush on Truck

Question:

i have a 2015 dodge 2500 mega cab, hemi 6.4. I pulll RV 14,000 gvwrfoot 2000 hitch. D doge house. Installed a bandw 1384R hitch. I am looking at a curt x5 16310 adapter and use my Reese 16 k hitch. The x5 likes about 1\4 inch going down flat on my bed. The square shank on the x5 bottoms out on my hitch. My question is can I cut the shank off 1/4 inch on the x5. This should let the x5 set down flush on the bed and let the lock pin on pickup close. Can this be done and still be safe? I am now using a Anderson V 19 adjustable adapter.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he surprisingly said that you could trim down the shank of the X5 adapter if you needed to. Here is exactly what he sent me:

The customer may trim 1/4” off the bottom of the shank, however he must ensure the locking pin hole aligns with the locking pin. We do not recommend slotting the locking pin hole, as it is likely to allow vertical movement of the adapter.
