There are 2 great options for towing a 5th wheel trailer in a truck that has a bed shorter than 6 feet. First, and what I recommend, is to use the Demco 13K 5th wheel hitch # DM8550040. This hitch slides automatically 22-1/2 inches which will provide turning clearance for most 5th wheel trailers.

The other option is to use a fixed 5th wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder. The Sidewinder will move the trailer pivot point back 22 inches for turning clearance. This is also the only option if the truck has the Ram Box feature.

There are some things to be aware of for each of these possible options. First, the Demco hitch is rated for 13,000 pounds gross trailer weight. If the trailer is heavier than that it will not work. Otherwise this is the best option.

If for any reason you can't use the Demco hitch then you would need a Sidewinder but they only fit certain factory pin boxes. I would need to know the manufacturer and model of the pin box (on a sticker or plate on the pin box itself) to determine if we have one that will fit. I have linked a help article on Sidewinders for you.

Either way you go I will also need to know the year and model of your Ram (1500, 2500, or 3500) to recommend a 5th wheel installation kit.
