Needing Weight Distributing Shank With Larger Drop for Pro Series W/D System

Question:

I have your Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW, but traded campers and now the adjustable shank does not have enough adjustment to allow me to lower the camper tongue enough. I need a shank that works with this system that will allow me to get a little more . Any help appreciated. Thanks

The shank that was provided with your Pro Series system # 49570 with friction bar # 83660 offered a maximum drop of around 2 inches. The right shank will depend on how much more drop you're needing. The # RP63971 allows up to a 6-1/2 inch drop when used with a round bar system, which should provide you with more than enough drop.

To determine exactly how much drop you're needing, measure the distance between the inside top of the receiver opening and the ground. Then, with the trailer sitting level, measure the distance from the underside of the coupler to the ground. The difference between these two numbers is the approximate rise/drop needed. Keep in mind that the vehicle can squat by up to 1-1/2 inches with the trailer's tongue weight applied, so add 1-1/2 inches of elevation to the difference between the hitch height/coupler height difference. I'll link you to a FAQ article that shows how to do the measure. The FAQ describes how to find the rise/drop of ball mount needed, but the principle for a weight distribution shank is the same, except in this case you'll be adding 1-1/2 inches of elevation.
