Mounting a trans cooler in front of everything else, radiator and AC condenser, will yield the most cooling ability. The size of the heat exchanger is the factor that weighs most heavily on the cooling ability followed by location and construction/design.
The best way to select a cooler is by considering the load you will be towing and the area you will be towing in. The cooler needed to aid in towing a single jet ski in a cool or moderate climate would not be nearly as big as the cooler needed for towing a boat through Texas in the summer.
The cooler you were looking at, Derale part # D13611, would be great for pulling a small load with your Pilot. However, if you are going to being a pull a big load, close to the towing capacity limit of the Pilot, a larger cooler would be better, like Derale part # D13502.
Below I have added a link to a video of a cooler being installed on a Honda CR-V. It should give you a pretty good idea of the process as well as give you some insight when choosing a cooler.
