Why Are Brake Controller Designed to Stay On After Vehicle is Shut Off
Question:
why is my brake box staying hot even with the pick up turned off....we had to have a connector wired into truck to fit ..it is a 2002 dodge pu...we have the HM47294 electric brake box

Brake controllers are designed to stay on even with the vehicle turned off for safety reasons, but the "how" is because they wire directly to the vehicle battery. If the electronics of your truck were to malfunction or fail and you were on the highway with a trailer you would still want the brake controller to be able to activate the trailer brakes.
What the controllers are designed to do is go into sleep mode after several minutes of no activity.
