Recommendation for an Adjustable ball Mount with 3 Balls for a 2016 Ram 3500

Question:

Hello, I have a new truck and am interested in your adjustable ballmount with 3 stainless steel balls. The height from the top of my receiver hitch opening to the ground is 22 1/2 - 23. How much rise/drop do you recommend to fit most trailers? Also, It is a 2-1/2inch hitch with a 2inch reducer to use 2inch ballmounts. I was thinking about ordering the mount in 2inch shank so that I can use on my other vehicles since the capacity rating is the same for 2-1/2inch and 2. Is there any benefit to using a 2-1/2inch ballmount? Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

Many trailers measure around 16 to 18 inches from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler with the trailer level. But really they could be any height. Ball mount # DTALBM6600-3S that offers up to 6 inches of drop and 7 inches of rise is going to most likely cover the majority of trailers you might tow. But you could err on the side of caution and go with something that offers a little more rise/drop such as # DT-ALBM6800-3S at 8 inches drop and 9 inches rise maximum.

Using a reducer sleeve to go from a 2-1/2 inch to a 2 inch shank is fine. But the benefit of using a 2-1/2 inch shank with the 2-1/2 inch hitch is that it will be a better fit and have less movement since it would be a direct fit. If you wanted to go that route I recommend the B&W ball mount # BWTS20049B which isn't stainless steel but it does have a true 2-1/2 inch shank. I have linked videos of this ball mount at the aluminum 2 inch one # DTALBM6600-3S for you.
