Replacement Trailer Tire Recommendation for Horse Trailer with ST225/75D15

Question:

I currently have Vail ST225/75D15 Bias ply load range D tires on my Sundowner two horse gooseneck trailer with dressing room. I had a mechanic doing maintenance on the trailer today and he found one tires sidewall had a huge slice in it, it was obviously low. He put the spare on but the spare seems to be bigger, its a LoadStar and seems thicker and taller despite the fact I think its a 15 inch tire too. Id like to get two more tires, one to put on the trailer and one as a spare. Would this tire be the right choice? I want to get as close to the other 3 Vail tires that are on it now. See attached photo: the LoadStar is in front of the Vail. Does it appear taller?? Will this be an issue even with a short drive?

The spare tire is a different size from what you have on the rest of the trailer. Since the picture you sent in was very high quality I was able to zoom in and see that the size of it is H78-15ST. While this is very similar to the ST225/75D15 you have on your trailer it would be slightly taller. Especially if your other tires have some wear on them and the tread of the spare is basically new.

The part # TTWSF22515D would be the exact same as what you have on the rest of your trailer. I would recommend you replace both tires on the same axle at the same time as well.

For a short drive your spare should be fine as it looks like you have plenty of clearance.
