Adjusting Power on Agility Brake Controller to Stop Trailer Brakes from Locking Up

Question:

I have the Hopkins Agility controller in my truck now but towing a trailer, it locked up the trailer wheels and skidded the tires. Is there an adjustment for this and how do I do this ?

The plus and minus buttons on top of the Agility brake controller # HM47294 adjust the power output to the trailer brakes. It sounds like you have the controller set to send back more power than is needed. Pushing the minus button will adjust the power down some each time you press it.

The basic test is to pull the trailer in an empty parking lot and fully apply the manual override without using the truck's brake pedal. If the trailer brakes lock up then the power needs to be adjusted down. If they do not lock up adjust the power up. You want the trailer brakes to be at a point just under wheel lock up.

Also make sure that the controller is mounted up to 70 degrees nose up or -20 degrees nose down and is not tilted or turned to one side. If a controller is mounted outside of its range then it can cause unwanted braking performance. I have linked the manual for the Agility for you and a video review of it.
