Will Stromberg Carlson Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier TR-1 Accept 5-on-4-1/2 Bolt Pattern Wheel

Question:

Hi, I have a travel trailer with a 4x4 square tube bumper. Id like to use the TR-1 to attach a full sized spare to the trailer for the tow vehicle. The wheel I need to attach is 5 lug, 4.5inch bolt diameter. Is there a way this carrier can mount my wheel in question? Can it be modified to do so? The top surface of the square tube bumper is 20 inches off the ground. I thought the TR-1 would provide enough ground clearance for an 18-inch wheel 29-inch diameter tire. Do you think the Fulton Hi-Mount or MaxxTow carriers can be adapted to a 4x4 square tube and provide enough ground clearance? Thanks, Vince

My contact at Stromberg Carlson confirmed that their # TR-1 bumper-mount spare tire carrier will work with a 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern wheel. This carrier when mounted on a 4-inch bumper will suspend a 29-inch diameter tire such that the tire bottom surface is approximately 5-inches below the top of your bumper, or about 1-inch below the bumper's bottom edge.

I cannot recommend modifying a tire carrier for use in any other way than intended by its maker.
