How Are Safety Chain Brackets On Sterling Tow Bar Used With 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

I have a Sterling tow bar and want to put the EZ-5 base plates on my 2016 cherokee trailhawk, but I see a comment that the safety chain anchors dont work with the sterling tow bar and have to be attached to the frame or the receiver portion of the base plate. Can you explain why that is the case? I dont see anything on the roadmaster site regarding this.

I have attached a photo of the Sterling Tow Bar safety cable brackets you can check out. I have an arrow pointing to the brackets. These brackets are used when you attach to base plates that have a bar like the one shown in the photo.

These brackets are not used when you are installing the EZ5 Base Plate Kit, part # RM-521446-5 on your 2015 Trailhawk. There is no place to attach them to. That is why the bracket needs to be installed on the vehicle.

If your Cherokee has 4 wheel drive or the Active Drive II system, to maintain the vehicle's stable steering while being flat towed you will want to install the Mopar accessory kit 68321424AB, available from your Jeep dealer. This kit will prevent the Cherokee's steering from shaking while being flat towed.
