Options for Wiring Up Third Brake Light on Trailer Camper Shell on Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I would like to plug my black and red truck cap brake light wire to the trailor hitch connecter that i have. It a 4 way connector under my tacoma. What is the black and what is the red? I want to make a quick disconnect. does the black go to brown and the red to white?

I wish it was just as simple as connecting to the 4-way circuit's but the problem is that there isn't a dedicated brake signal on your 4-way since the turn signals are combined on the brake signal circuit. You can try tapping into the third brake light signal of your vehicle as that will be your best option. Also, at the brake pedal there should be the same circuit available. You may need a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 for this if you do not have one.
Or you can use a circuit converter part # C56196 to wire to your 4-way circuits to give you a dedicated stoplight circuit. You would just wire the colors on the input side of the box to the colors of your 4-way and the red wire on the output side would be the correct one to use for the stoplight circuit.
