Using Bearing Buddy # BB60002 Grease Seal Kit on Spindle With Damaged Grease Seal Journal Surface
Question:
Would this work on a EasyLube axle I think is 3500 lb. Has 1.717 OD where OEM seal rode but seal surfaces are rough shape. 2.562 seal bore ID in hub 1.375 inner bearing ID. Inner is L68149. Outer is L44649 with ID 1.062 Dimensions are probably within +- .004. Thanks,

If the seal journal surface on your spindle is damaged to the point where the grease seal compatible with your hub won't contain the grease in the hub, the only acceptable way to proceed is to replace the spindle or the axle. Because welding replacement spindles into place is a delicate operation requiring lots of skill to get correct, in many cases its simpler to replace the axle. We have a limited selection of trailer axles available, in order to determine if anything we have on hand would work for you, I'd need to know the hub face to hub face dimension and the center to center distance between the spring seats, as shown in the diagram I've provided.
Because the seal journal surface is damaged, there's a danger that the # BB60002 won't fit to the spindle as its supposed to, which could allow grease to leak out or moisture to infiltrate the hub which would break down the grease over time.
