Fitment and Compatibility of Yakima FullSwing Y02465 on a 2016 Willy Jeep Wrangler Unlimited w/Spare

Question:

Hello, I am interested in the Yakima swinging bike rack Y02465 for three reasons. One, it allows access to the cargo. Two, it has a lock for the hitch and bikes, and three, it holds 4 bikes. I am trying to figure out whether or not it will fit on a 2016 Willy unlimited Jeep with the spare tire. The Jeep came with a 2 inch hitch. Can you please help me figure this out? And if it does not fit, is there a good alternative? I did put a 2X4 up against the spare tire that extended down to the floor. I measured from the center of the pin hole on the hitch to the edge of the 2X4 and it was 9 inches. Thank you,

Thanks for taking the measurement from the center of your hitch pin to the edge of your spare tire. That was a great help and made it super easy for me to help you figure out if this bike rack will work for you! I agree that those 3 reasons (security, access, and load capacity) make this Yakima bike rack pretty fantastic.

The Yakima FullSwing 4-Bike Rack # Y02465 is going to fit great to your 2016 Willys Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with your spare tire and 2 inch hitch. The measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright mast is going to be 15 inches which is plenty of clearance for your spare tire.

The one thing I want you to check out to be sure this rack is the best for you is that the hitch on your Willy and your vehicle itself is rated for the it is the 216lbs of tongue weight this rack will max out at. (This 216lbs is the total weight based on 160lbs for the 4 bikes at max weight and 56lbs of weight for the bike rack itself) Typically this is not an issue for a 2 inch receiver, but it is always good to check since we do not know what hitch is installed on your 2016. From my research it looks like the trailer hitch might be rated for 350lbs tongue weight. To determine how much your vehicle can handle you will want to check owner's manual, the hitch itself, or the placard on the inside of the driver's door.

If you find that your vehicle or your hitch is rated for less than the 216lbs, just respond to this and let me know, I will be more than happy to troubleshoot this issue with you.

If you happen to have any alternative framed bikes, like women's bike often are, you will want to use a bike adapter bar like # Y02531 to mount the bike properly.

I have linked the mentioned products to this page for your convenience as well as an installation video showing the bike adapter bar for you to check out.
