Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Only Shows Low Voltage After a Few Minutes of Travelling

Question:

I have a pilot trailer brake controller 2010 Dodge Dakota. The trailer brakes usually work fine as soon as I hook the trailer up, but after driving shortly the trailer brake controller will only display up to 1.1, no more. It doesnt matter where I set the output wheel. I also tow a two axle horse trailer with this truck and the trailer brakes on that work perfectly all the time no matter what. Ive checked the wiring on the trailer and it all looks good, with no unusual splices cuts or odd routings. Ive checked the grounds in the trailer and in the truck where the trailer brake controller is attached to the battery and those are all solid. I replaced the connector and lead wire on the camper trailer and wired it solidly at the junction box.

It sounds like you may have bad trailer magnets on the assemblies of your camper trailer and once they get hot they cause the brake controller to behave strangely. That's basically the only thing left in the equation that you haven't replaced or tested.

I attached a help article that details how to troubleshoot trailer brake magnets for you to check out as well.
