Replacement Air Spring and Shock for Trailair Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box

Question:

Good afternoon. I have a Trailair king pin on my 5th wheel toy hauler. I purchased this used, it is a 2013 and Im just wondering how can I tell if the shock on the king pin needs replaced? Im pretty sure the replacement is LC177223 if I need it. Thank you.

You can check the shock by disconnecting one end and manually applying pressure. If you can easily compress it, then it probably needs to be replaced with # LC177223.

A Trailair Air Ride 5th wheel pin box like # LC155943 has both a rubber air spring and a shock absorber to ensure the air bag rebounds after compressing.

I suggest you inflate the bag to the level required to raise the shock to the recommend height; this is noted on the shock tube by a yellow sticker with arrows. Unless you find that either the air spring is not holding pressure or that the shock is not bringing the system back after compression, the pin box shock should still be fine.
