Is A Hydraulic or Surge Coupler Adjustable for The Weight of the Trailer

Question:

Is the tital 7500 lb actuator adjustable. My trailer weighs 2500 lbs with my motorcycle in it, the load most of the time. Can it be adjusted to work best at this weight. Thankyou

A hydraulic or surge coupler isn't adjustable for the weight of the trailer but strangely enough, they don't need to be. The brakes would certainly be more effective if there were more weight on the trailer, but conversely a lighter trailer doesn't need as much braking force as a heavier trailer would. I've spoken with my contacts at Demco and Titan, both of whom confirm this.

The more inertia provided by the weight of the trailer and its load, the harder the brakes will apply, but less weight means less inertia means less braking force is needed.

This being said, if you'll never carry anything on the trailer that would make the weight of the trailer and its cargo exceed 6-7000 lbs, I'd recommend going with a lower rated coupler. The coupler you need will depend on whether you have drum or disc brakes. For drum brakes, go with the Demco # DM72VR or for disc brakes, use # DM62VR. Both couplers are compatible with a 2 inch trailer ball.

If you click the provided link, you can see videos for both the couplers I mentioned.
