Purpose of Separate Ground Lead on Brake Controller Wiring Adapter Part # 3040-P for 2010 Tundra  

Question:

My 2010 Tundra has the tow package with wiring for the brake controller. I will be using a Tek P3, but I noticed your 3040-p harness has a ground pigtail. Why is the harness not using the ground provided in the controller hook up under the left kick panel?

According to one of our contacts at Tekonsha, the harness does utilize the ground connection in the factory plug under the dash, but Toyota used a very small gauge wire in the plug. In order to ensure a proper ground connection and reliable brake operation, a separate ground lead is used as well.

We have an installation video that you might find helpful. The video shows a controller being installed on a 2007 Tundra, but the procedure would be similar on your 2010 model. I will provide a link to the video below.
