Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2013 Acura MDX with Brake Controller Wiring

Question:

Hi there I have a 2013 Acura MDX and have the factory-installed tow wiring. I have factory 4-pin brake controller pigtail and have found the place under the dash where it plugs in. Question is, can you please let me know which inertial brake controllers are compatible? I notice on the website that all of the 2013 MDX-specific controllers say without factory wiring and Im looking for the one that does support the factory install. Thank you. Best regards,

We don't have an adapter that will allow you to simply plug in a brake controller in your 2013 Acura MDX but you can pretty simply hardwire a brake controller to the pig tail that you have found. You will just need to cut off the connector on your vehicle and then wire the 4 wires of the controller to them.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.

On this controller the red wire is the stoplight circuit switch that would need to get run to the wire on your vehicle that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied, the black wire would get ran to the wire that has voltage all the time. Ground the circuit tester (like part # 3808) to the constant 12-volt power wire, then probe the remaining two wires. The wire that lights the tester will be the ground for the white wire, and the other will be the brake output circuit which will run to the blue wire.
