How to Determine What Extra Wire for Wiring Up 7-Way on a Ford F-350
Question:
I am hooking up a trail harness to my 97 Ford f350 4DR/ LB . I have a 4-way flat to 7-way RV blade connector that doesnt have a red wire that my truck has. What is the red wire for and does it have to be connected?

You would need to test the wire with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to determine it's function. It could be a third brake light circuit used for wiring up a camper shell third brake light as that is the most common extra wire found in trailer wiring bundles.
