Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 and 23 ft Redline Toy Hauler

Question:

I have purchased a 2007 23 foot Redline 27 foot overall toy hauler and will be towing it with a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel. The tag on the outside of the trailer states the trailer weight at 5500lbs with a GVW of 10000lbs. Tongue weight listed on the same tag is 800lbs. I have three quads weighing roughly 900lbs I will carry in the trailer. Recommendations on weight distribution system?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

When your trailer is loaded it is going to have a tongue weight of 820 to 1,230 lbs based on the weights you listed. The system you would then want is the Reese Strait Line part # RP66130 that has a tongue weight range of 800-1,200 lbs and has the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts.

For a shank you would then need the part # RP54970 and then for a hitch ball part # C40086.
