Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I am researching tow bars and base plates for my 2012 Tacoma 2WD. WHAT I HAVE COME UP WITH IS THAT I NEED BLUE OX PART# BX7380 AND PART # BX 3763 BASE PLATE. Is this correct and do i need anything else for towing? i plan to just use aux taillights and not mess with OEM installed lights. Is there a brake kit I need too?

You are on the right track. For a base plate kit for your 2012 Toyota Tacoma the # BX3763 is the correct one to use and the tow bar part # BX7380 would be an excellent choice since it is one of the nicest tow bars on the market.

For an easy to use lighting solution we have the wireless Pilot kit part # NV-5164 that would work well.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
